Unions seek interface with Dangote group over unionisation

Unions affiliated to IndustriALL Global Union, in Nigeria are seeking engagement with Dangote Group over the unionsiation of its member companies in Nigeria. They however, commended the President of the group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, for his drive towards industrialisation of African continent.

Why employment crisis persists- NECA DG

The question we should be asking ourselves is, why are we not getting it right? We are not getting results because we are not doing the right things. Let me repeat myself again, we are looking for a microwave solution to a problem that requires a far more robust and fundamental approach. The first thing we must realise as a country is that employment comes from meaningful inclusive and consistent growth. Now when you look at the state of our economy particularly, in the last three to four years, we have not really posted meaningful growth. Even in time past, when Nigeria was posting an average of 6 percent and 7.5 percent Gross Domestic Product, GDP growth rate, it did not result into meaningful employment. That was why I said earlier that what we require is sustainable and inclusive growth.

BETWEEN last Wednesday and Friday, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, faction, led by Comrade Ayuba Wabba, and some members of the civil society, allies of the organised labour, went on a nationwide strike to force the Federal Government to reverse the N145 pump price of petrol.The strike did not enjoy the support of the Comrade Joe Ajaero-led faction of NLC or the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, which pulled out at the last minute.In this interview, Ajaero gives an insight into what led to both factions of the NLC going separate ways and how agreements were reached with the Federal Government, among other issues.
