For Mrs. Anna Ukatta,widow of late Andrew Onwuebuibo Ukatta of Amizi in Ikwuano council of Abia State, who was murdered in cold blood in his farm on January, 10, 2013, life can never be the same again.

Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba, Lagos, have charged a 44- year-old petroleum dealer before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on a two- count charge of stealing a trailer load of diesel and issuing of dud cheque.

Making the confession recently in Lagos, at the state Police Command, the Port Harcourt-based woman, who had been in the business for over a year, confessed to having helped women deliver countless number of children through a very questionable method. This she does after she is been paid between N1,500,000 to N3,000,000, depending on the sex and number of babies her clients requests for.

Few days ago, Otukpo the traditional headquarters of the Idoma kingdom and the home town of the Senate President, David Mark, was engulfed in a major crisis that shook the very foundation of the town. The crisis which started as a protest by the irate youths who were protesting the citing of a private university by the Senate President, at Asa 111 area of the town, led to the alleged shooting of five Police men and six others by the protesting youths.

The robbers, numbering over 20 and armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked three banks and killed three persons: a member of a vigilante group and two others.

For some time now, armed robbers and kidnappers have taken over an area referred to as “Evil Forest” located along the Benin-City bypass, and seen as a haven for criminal activities. Luxury buses plying the East-Lagos routes have on many occasions been attacked, passengers robbed and women raped in the area. Those who resist are killed. Families of many kidnapped victims are asked to go to the ‘Evil Forest’ to drop ransom. In the past, policemen dared not go near the place because they may not come back alive to tell the story.
