…Over indigenous bishop *Why Akabueze won’t quit – Senator Owie, others
Since he was appointed as the Archbishop of the Benin Metropolitan See on 18 March, 2011, Augustine Obiora Akubueze has not had peace. Prior to his installation on 28 April, 2011, a group of Binis, under the aegis of the Edo Liturgical Group,agitated for a Benin bishop, accusing the hierarchy of the Catholic Church of marginalizing the Binis, especially their priests from emerging as bishops.

Ideally Mobolorunduro community via Ijoko-Ota, Ogun State, would have been a most desired place to be given the once prevailing peace there. But this is presently not the case as peace has been forced into exile owing to incessant robbery attacks. Residents now live in palpable fear as criminal elements engage in a show of viciousness and superiority on constant basis.

A gigantic billboard bearing a smiling woman smartly dressed in a gown, cuddling her son who was also grinning from ear-to-ear stood firmly on top of the ruins of the three high rise apartment and store which had just collapsed and trapped unknown number of people that Thursday afternoon. The advertisement was an annoying contradiction to the desperate reality beneath it – a grim day light tragic drama that had attracted thousands of persons, including the Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero to No. 012 Hadieja Street, by the Kaduna Central Market last week.

Child defilement is becoming a source of concern in Benin-City, Edo State capital. It is even more worrisome when the act is carried out by supposedly men of God.
