Ibadan: Rage of residents over 8-year reign of darkness

TO some Ibadan residents who live at Muslim, Odinjo, Alade Masfala, Adesola in Oluyole and Ona Ara local government areas of Ibadan, it has been a harrowing experience for the past eight years living without power supply. With the exception of a negligible few who can afford generating sets, a larger percentage of people living in the areas have been coping with utter darkness. Their businesses have collapsed with artisans who need electricity for their work moving in droves to other places within the metropolis. Landlords in the area who rely on rents for survival now regret why they spent huge sums of money on buildings that would not yield money for them in return.

Azikiwe Centre or a den of robbers?

The last visit of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the ceremonial president in the first republic, to Zungeru, Niger Delta, his birth place, was on November 16, 1991. It was shortly after a colourful ceremony organised to raise funds to build Zik Centre, located in the town, to mark his 89th birthday. Earlier during the second republic, precisely in 1983, during his political campaign to Zungeru when he was the presidential candidate of Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP), Azikiwe took time off his political schedule to visit his birth place.

Daniel, on Saturday, August 24, stowed away in the wheel well of an Arik aircraft from Benin-City to Lagos.
