ABAKALIKI, the capital of Ebonyi State, has for years enjoyed the bragging right of being called the home of local rice production in Nigeria. Indeed many are familiar with the popular Abakaliki rice which is believed to have a higher nutritional value than the imported polished and parboiled rice, and possibly the best in the world as certified by American experts.

PIQUED by the spate of road accidents caused by excessive smoke emitting vehicles and their damaging effect on the environment, Lagos State Government has concluded plans to commence emission tests for vehicles plying the metropolis, next year.

LAGOS State government said 1,015 offenders have been sentenced to various terms of community service across the 12 magisterial districts of the state, in the last 100 days.

Major mayhem, nay wanton destruction of properties and possibly lives, was at the weekend averted in Anambra State as irate electricity consumers in Ugwuagba Layout, Obosi, near the commercial city of Onitsha, were prevented by their leaders from extending their protest march to Uguwagba office of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC(formerly PHCN).
