Pissed by the dearth of qualified artisans in the nation’s construction industry, the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, NICE, has announced plans to build a skills acquisition centre in Lagos.

The state of infrastructure in Nigeria does not meet the requirement for economic development. This view was canvassed by the Registrar of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria, QSRBN, Mr Godson Moneke at a workshop organised by the Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, NIQS.

The dark cloud of death that has been stalking Plateau State thickened, yesterday, after Senator Gyang Dantong and the Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Gyang Fulani were killed while attending the mass burial of about 50 victims of Saturday’s attack on villages in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas of the state.

Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA has provided parking lots for trailers and tanker drivers in seven states across the nation. The Agency has also paved the shoulders of Abuja-Kaduna Road for brief parking of trailers and tanker without obstructing traffic flow on that route.

Worried by the continuous decay of the nation’s infrastructure, Lagos based quantity surveyors have called for the de-regulation of the petroleum downstream sector, but not as dictated by the World Bank.

The setting was the Federal High Court, in the highbrow Ikoyi area of Lagos. A politician from one of the eastern states who was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly enriching himself, had just being granted bail by the court.
