The military, yesterday, engaged the Boko Haram terrorists in a fierce battle at Vimtim, the home town of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents. At the end of the gun battle, the troops who moved in from the 1 Division Kaduna, 3 Division Jos and TRADOC, Minna killed 40 sect members and also succeeded in reclaiming Michika, Uba and Gulak towns from the terrorists.

Son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lt Col Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer at the 3rd Division in Jos, Plateau State was shot yesterday by Boko Haram terrorists as he led soldiers on an offensive to reclaim Michika town in Adamawa State which fell into the hands of the insurgents. Twenty four soldiers were also reportedly killed during the encounter in which Lt Col Obasnjo was said to be seriously injured.

Anxiety, panic gripped residents of Mubi, the commercial nerve centre of Adamawa State, yesterday, as news spread that Boko Haram insurgents were closing in on the town. This came as the military vowed that the onslaught to checkmate activities of the terrorists will not stop until they are completely wiped out.

Nigerian warplanes are carrying out air strikes against Boko Haram militant bases at Bama, Borno State, a senior official said yesterday, in a government counter-attack against Boko Haram’s drive to create an Islamist enclave.

The United States of American warned yesterday that the reputation of Nigeria’s military was at stake while the future of the country and her children is in jeopardy following the capture of some towns in the north eastern part of the country in the last few weeks by Boko Haram terrorists.
