EVERY child conceived and birthed into the world is meant to bring happiness to both parents as they nurture and shower affection on the child. However, this wasn’t the case of a baby who was delivered into a family in Benin in 1938. Due to the baby’s sickly and fainting nature, his stern hard-hearted father told his mother to dump him on a garbage heap and leave him there to die.

THOUGH the calendar still says December, with parents and children already in the Christmas and holiday mood, it is never too early for parents to start planing for the next school term as saving for back-to-school may take a back seat right now due to the festive season’s preparations.

As a new term draws nearer so fast, a Benin based mother of four, Mrs Nkechi Marchie, advises many unprepared parents to avoid scrambling to source for the funds to pay the fees of their ward(s) by setting aside the school fees before shopping for the christmas.

Giving the country’s alarming rate of unemployment, which have continued to force an army of Nigerian youths abroad in search of greener pasture, renowned industrialists and entrepreneurs who gathered, last Thursday, at the opening ceremony of Anabel Group 3rd Nigerian Leadership Summit 2014, held at Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, have advised the youths to embrace entrepreneurship development and stop waiting for government to do everything.

16 year- old Justin Ifeanyi Nwaoha, an SS3 student of ISOLOG College, Ojodu, Lagos State, has won the second edition of the PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge (PZCCC).
Justin, with a cumulative score of 72 per cent in both theory and practical sessions of the intensive final, was rewarded with N700,000 cash, a laptop, a trophy and gold medal. His Chemistry teacher, Mr. Mayowa Adeoti, went home with N100,000 and a plague, while Chemistry books worth N100,000 were also presented to his school.

I never would have gone to that school if I knew my career and entire life would be so frustrated. Imagine paying tuition, studying all night for examinations and not seeing most of your results? I went through that school to facilitate my rise in the Nigeria Police which I had joined as a secondary school leaver, but as things are now, maybe I should have spent that money on my wife and children. Rising to the top here is extremely slow except you have a degree, but see how that school has frustrated me!”
