At independence in 1960, Nigeria ranked among potentially leading countries of the world. With her enormous endowments in human and natural resources, it was projected that the country should, within five decades or less, compete favourably with any among the former colonisers of Africa in Euro-America. Some lecturers of the Lagos State University (LASU) have expressed divergent views on the dismissal of its 15 academic staff, including the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and his deputy.

The Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday rationalised the dismissal of the institution’s Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), his deputy and 13 other staff members, saying it was not politically motivated.

THE Federal Government Negotiation Team will be meeting with the non teaching staff in the Universities today as the staff commence a nationwide strike.
