Vessel detention on the rises in Indonesia

There has been an increase of incidents where vessels anchored in the waters around the island of Bintan, in the Eastern portion of the Singapore Straits, have been detained. Bintan is a popular place to anchor (“waiting for orders”) because it is close to shipping lanes and believed to be OPL Singapore but it is in fact within Indonesian territorial waters. THE Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, and the Nigerian Navy operatives have arrested a vessel, ‘M.T. Asu’ with International Maritime Organisation, IMO, number 9014511, for trading illegally on the nation’s coastal waters.

Cabotage: Nigerian seafarers’ engagement rise by 10.6%

FOLLOWING improved implementation of the Coastal and Inland Shipping Act 2003, otherwise known as Cabotage, by Nigerian Maritime Safety and Administration Agency, NIMASA, the engagement of seafarers by vessels trading along the nation’s coastal waters rose by 10.6 percent in 2018.
