Nigeria Customs fine-tunes modalities for border reopening

There are indications that the Federal Government, FG, may have decided to re-open Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic as Vanguard Maritime Report learnt that the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, along with the Benin Republic counterpart are now putting finishing touch to avert the reason for the closure.

Meanwhile, officials of both customs authorities are working on modalities to facilitate only legitimate trade across the Seme and other border posts.

Lilypond Customs Export Command records 423% cargo growth

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Lilypond Export Command, has recorded export cargo worth N1.39 billion under the Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme, NESS, in the first quarter of 2024, Q124, a 423.8 percent increase over the N328.2 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2023, Q1’23.

Orosanye Report: NIWA may be scrapped

GOING by the recommendations of the Steve Oronsaye’s report, the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA,  headquartered in Lokoja, Kogi State, is to be scrapped and its functions transferred to both the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA.

While NPA takes over the River Ports functions of NIWA, NIMASA will take over its boat registration and other related functions of the agency.

Controversy emerges over cargo scanners
