THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has formally declared the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, candidate, Chief Willie Obiano as winner of the Anambra State governorship election after last weekend’s supplementary poll. INEC had declared the first exercise held on November 16, 2013 inconclusive because the difference in votes scored between Chief Obiano who polled 174,710 votes and Comrade Tony Nwoye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who came second with 94,856 votes, was more than 113113 registered voters in areas where the commission cancelled election after the first exercise.

Chief Willie Obiano, a chartered accountant and seasoned banker, has become the main topic for discussion among the political class in Anambra as he settles down as a governor –elect. The Aguleri, Anambra East local government area –born financial technocrat -turned politician, was one of the major surprises of the Anambra gubernatorial campaigns, having remained in the background while other Anambrarians were jostling from pillar to post wanting to become successor to Governor Peter Obi in 2014.

Chief Willie Obiano, the Anambra Governor-elect, on Monday received Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka.

A first class monarch and Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, has warned Independent National Electoral Commission against corruption and inefficiency as witnessed in AnambraState in the conduct of 2014 governorship election in the state.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Willie Obiano, has been declared winner of the governorship election in Anambra State.

The returning officer,  Prof James Epoke said Obiano satisfied all the requirements of the law “and is hereby declared winner. ”

The Campaign for Democracy, a political pressure group has blamed INEC for the low turn-out of voters in the Anambra supplementary election on Saturday.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers, Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak, has commended the people of Anambra for coming out to vote in Saturday’s supplementary governorship election, stating that there was no boycott of the election from any political party.

The restriction of movement imposed by the police and INEC during the ongoing Anambra supplementary governorship election was not effective in Idemili North Local Government area as residents operated their business activities.

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, Prince Ken Emeakayi has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of causing mischief and deceiving Nigerians.
