The political landscape ahead of the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race gained significant momentum this week as a political group, The Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027, has hailed the appointment of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as the Director General of Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat’s campaign organisation.
The appointment, which has been met with enthusiasm by supporters of the incumbent Deputy Governor, is being viewed as a calculated move to solidify the campaign’s grassroots and structural strategy.
The diaspora group, a global coalition comprising Lagosians residing across the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, dedicated to the advancement of Dr. Hamzat’s political vision, described the selection of Senator Obanikoro as an ideal match for the complexities of Lagos politics.
“This appointment is indeed a classic case of a round peg in a round hole,” stated Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu (ART), the Director General and Convener of Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027.
Tinubu highlighted the Senator’s extensive history in public service as a primary asset for the campaign.
“Senator Obanikoro’s vast political experience, outstanding leadership credentials, strategic thinking, and deep understanding of Lagos politics make him exceptionally qualified for this important responsibility,” he added.
Obafemi Hamzat’s supporters believe that Obanikoro’s ability to navigate and unite diverse political interests will be the catalyst needed to streamline the campaign’s operations within the All-Progressives Congress.
“We are confident that under his leadership, the campaign structure will be strengthened and strategically positioned to deliver the candidacy of Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat to victory at the polls,” Tinubu noted in his official statement.
The Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027 emphasised that they remain fully prepared to integrate their international reach with the Senator’s local campaign strategy.
According to the leadership, the organisation is ready to deploy its networks, professional resources, and international engagements to assist the campaign organisation in mobilising Lagosians both at home and abroad.
The group offered prayers for the new Director General, stating, “We wish Senator Musiliu Obanikoro a successful tenure as Director General and pray that Almighty God grants him wisdom, strength, and good health as he undertakes this critical assignment.”
As the 2027 electoral cycle approaches, this endorsement signals a unified push from the diaspora community to secure a win for the Hamzat ticket, marking a significant early consolidation of political forces in Lagos.
