The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of two new undergraduate programmes at Baze University, Abuja, namely Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering, with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval represents a significant milestone in the University’s expanding investment in aviation and aerospace education, complementing the ongoing development of its dedicated Aviation School on a more than88-hectare site in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, which is at an advanced stage.
The approval, conveyed in a letter dated October 16, 2026, and signed by Dr Ayuba Mohammed, Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, authorises the University to run the programmes on a full-time basis at its main campus in Abuja.
According to the Commission, the approval followed a resource verification visit by a panel of experts to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed programmes, and an inspection visit to the Aviation School. The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, subsequently approved their establishment after considering the panel’s report.
Aviation Management will be domiciled in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, while Aerospace Engineering will be offered under the Faculty of Engineering. The two programmes will expand the University’s undergraduate offerings in fields that are increasingly important to aviation development, technological innovation and the broader aerospace industry.
The approval also complements Baze University’s ongoing development of its Aviation School on an expansive over 88-hectare site in Bwari, Abuja. The project, which is at an advanced stage, reflects the University’s broader ambition to build capacity in aviation education and training through dedicated infrastructure and specialised academic programmes. The development of the facility, alongside the introduction of the newly approved degrees, signals a coordinated effort to strengthen the University’s presence in aviation related education.
While the NUC approval authorises the two undergraduate programmes to operate at the University’s main campus, the developing Aviation School in Bwari provides a distinct but complementary dimension to this wider institutional investment. Together, the initiatives position Baze University to broaden its academic reach in aviation and aerospace fields, subject to the relevant regulatory approvals for the programmes and facilities concerned. The new programmes are expected to commence in the 2026/2027 academic session. Their establishment marks another step in Baze University’s academic expansion and its commitment to developing specialised fields of study that respond to emerging professional, technological and industry needs.
