The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Provost of the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa (OSCO-HEALTH), Dr. Lateef Olarewaju Raheem, for the visible transformation taking place in the institution, particularly in infrastructure, learning facilities, academic development and the general campus environment.
The commendation followed an inspection visit to the College by a delegation of NANS led by the National Financial Secretary, Comrade Alao John Oluwadamilola, the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode and other student leaders, during which the delegation assessed a number of facilities and ongoing developments across the campus.
Speaking to pressmen after the inspection, Alao nsaid the delegation was impressed by the level of development witnessed in several critical areas of the institution. He specifically highlighted the ICT Centre, Medical Imaging Laboratory, X-Ray Imaging Laboratory, Dispensing Opticianry Laboratory and Dental Clinic, noting that the availability and improvement of such facilities are important to the quality of practical training received by students.
The delegation also inspected the renovated College auditorium and the institution’s library, where it was informed that the facility now houses over 60,000 books and learning resources, providing students with a substantially improved academic resource base.
Alao noted that the developments observed during the visit were consistent with publicly documented improvements recorded under Dr. Raheem’s administration.
Dr. Raheem was appointed in February 2023 as the first substantive Provost of OSCO-HEALTH, and reports on the College have documented developments including library renovation, ICT infrastructure, computer procurement, Medical Imaging facilities, Opticianry facilities, academic programme accreditation and other infrastructural interventions.
According to the NANS National Financial Secretary, the delegation considered it necessary to acknowledge visible institutional progress whenever such progress is observed.
“As students and representatives of the Nigerian student community, we have a responsibility not only to speak when things are wrong but also to commend genuine efforts and developments that directly improve the learning environment of students. What we have seen here today deserves commendation”, Alao stated.
He, however, urged the College management not to rest on its achievements but to sustain the momentum by expanding modern equipment, improving student welfare, strengthening accreditation efforts and upgrading learning facilities, while encouraging management, staff and students to continue working together to position OSCO-HEALTH among Nigeria’s leading health technology institutions.
He stressed that the ultimate measure of institutional development must remain the quality of education, practical training, welfare and opportunities available to students.
The delegation also appreciated the Provost for his warm reception and hospitality extended to the NANS delegation during the visit. The National Financial Secretary also requested the provision of a union bus for the Students’ Union, a request which the Provost graciously received and promised to work on.
