Nigerian singer John Ogabi Imoleayo, popularly known as John Sparrow, is preparing to release a new single titled Aye as he continues to build his presence in the country’s music industry.
The upcoming track, whose title means “Life” in Yoruba, is described as a celebration of life, gratitude and the everyday hustle in Lagos, blending Afrobeats with Afro-fusion influences.
According to information from sources close to the singer, Sparrow has spent recent months working in the studio to refine his sound ahead of the release.
Born on December 9, 2003, in Lagos, the singer grew up in a musically inclined family, drawing inspiration from Afrobeats, Highlife, R&B and Soul.
His musical journey began with church performances and school talent shows before he progressed to university stages and local events in Lagos. He has since developed a performance style characterised by energetic delivery and soulful vocals.
Sparrow officially entered the music scene with his debut single, Life I Choose, a motivational Afrobeats record centred on purpose, resilience and determination.
He followed it with Healer, an emotional and uplifting song that explores comfort, restoration and hope, showcasing his interest in Soul and Afro-fusion sounds.
The two releases have helped him build an audience through streaming platforms, campus communities and social media.
The singer has cited Fela Kuti, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido as some of the artistes who have influenced his musical direction. His own sound combines Afrobeats, Soul and R&B, with lyrics exploring love, ambition, faith and everyday Nigerian experiences.
Speaking about his forthcoming release, Sparrow said: “Life I Choose was my declaration, Healer was my healing, and Aye is my celebration of life. This is just the beginning.”
The singer is expected to make Aye available on digital streaming platforms soon.
