..gives police seven-day notice
Group known as Obidient Movement has given the police seven days’ notice of a planned peaceful protest at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) headquarters in Abuja, demanding the removal and replacement of the scheme’s Director-General over concerns about corps members’ welfare, healthcare and security.
The notice, signed by the movement’s Coordinator of Students, Paul Musa, and dated October 16, 2026, was addressed to the Inspector-General of Police.
The group cited Sections 39 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which guarantee freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, as the basis for its planned demonstration.
In the notice, the movement raised concerns about the administration of the national service scheme and called for changes in its leadership, saying improvements were needed in the protection and welfare of prospective and serving corps members.
It also called for stronger coordination between the NYSC and security agencies to improve safety arrangements for corps members during deployment and at their places of primary assignment.
The movement referred to reported abductions involving corps members and prospective corps members on Nigerian highways, urging relevant authorities to strengthen preventive measures and emergency response arrangements.
On healthcare, the group called for improved medical facilities, adequate equipment and staffing at NYSC orientation camps, as well as better emergency medical response for corps members undergoing orientation.
It also referred to the reported death of a corps member at the Enugu Orientation Camp, using the incident to press for greater attention to healthcare provision and emergency response across the scheme.
