The peaceful protest scheduled to hold on Tuesday, October 27 by the Forum for Retired Local Government Workers (FORGOW)and Association of Retired Primary School Teachers (ARPST) has been suspended.

The decision to suspended the protest was reached during a meeting held in Oria-Abraka, yesterday, Sunday, October 25, 2026 with the Delta State government represented by the Director of Protocol (DOP) to the Delta State Governor, Chief Onoriode and the Secretary to the Bureau of Local government pensions, Mr Atube.

On the side of the pensioners were the Chairman and Secretary of Forum For Retired Local Government Workers (FORGOW) Pastor Daniel Onosanimoni and Builder Godwin Ekeleni respectively; the Chairman and Secretary of Association of Retired Primary School Teachers (ARPST), Prince Gordon Etuwede and Comrade John Egie respectively.

The issues discussed were the N5.9 billion contributions unremitted to the Retirement Saving Account (RSAs) of the retirees and the deductions from gratuities following deviation from the template of B.A Adigun amounting to N11.6 billion.

Government assured that the issues will receive urgent necessary attention.

On the N5.9 billion which the governor had earlier approved for payment, the DOP assured that governor’s attention will be drawn to the failure of local government chairmen to implement the governor’s directive on the subject matter saying the delay was due to communication gap.

For the N11.6 billion, the DOP assured that the issue will be brought to the ear of the governor without further delay and a process for addressing the demand will be put in place.

Cautious of attempt of partisan colouration of the struggle and convinced of the sincerity of assurances of government delegation, leadership of the two groups of retirees resolved to put on hold the protest and consequently, the peaceful protest scheduled to hold on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 was thereby suspended.
