By Jimoh Babatunde

KANO — Indigenes of Ogun State residing in Kano State have pledged their full support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election, endorsing the joint ticket of Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu and his running mate, Hajia Lateefat Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo.
The endorsement was delivered during a reception organized on short notice for Sowunmi-Kolapo, who was in Kano for an official program. The deputy governorship candidate adjusted her flight itinerary to meet with the diaspora group.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the President of the Ogun State Indigenes Association in Kano, Alhaji Lateef Faisu Alamu, commended Sowunmi-Kolapo’s willingness to alter her schedule, describing it as a mark of responsive leadership.
”Please tell Hon. Ladi Adebutu that it is ‘Ogun for Ogun,'” said Alamu, a native of Ipokia Local Government Area and former eight-year president of the Yoruba community in Kano.
“We go home frequently, and we have our strong structures there. We could not afford to allow you to come to Kano without meeting us.”
Alamu noted that while members of the diaspora community, which includes medical doctors, lawyers, and business leaders, have maintained relationships with previous state administrations, their primary focus for the incoming administration remains addressing youth unemployment and improving opportunities for Ogun graduates.
In her response, Sowunmi-Kolapo reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to human capital development and job creation under its campaign platform, “ITURA DE” (Relief Has Come). She commended Adebutu’s track record of community welfare initiatives across Ogun State’s local governments and urged the diaspora community to remain politically active in their home state.
”‘Ogun for Ogun’ is our reality for building a solid foundation for the future of our children and grandchildren,” Sowunmi-Kolapo stated, encouraging Ogun indigenes across Northern Nigeria to mobilize family and network structures ahead of the polls.
The delegation, which included the association’s General Secretary, H.O. Salami, and former Legal Adviser, Imam Abdulyaqeen Olugbenga Abduljaleel, concluded the meeting with prayers for the PDP campaign ticket.
