The unveiling of the Oleyo Waterfall in Ebute-Igbooro, Yewa North Local Government Area, has prompted joint calls from community members and environmentalists for public investment in Ogun State’s rural tourism sector.
The pristine waterfall, flowing over ancient rock formations, was recently brought to light after generations of remaining hidden beneath the area’s forest canopy.
Attending the site tour alongside an entourage of local elders and youth groups, the Iya Ewe of the community and Founder of LRD Initiative, Chief Mrs. Omolara Egungbohun, joined community leaders in presenting the landmark to the public.
Speaking on the economic prospects of the site, community elders emphasized that Oleyo Waterfall offers stunning scenery and acoustic natural sounds capable of drawing domestic and international visitors.
“Transforming Oleyo Waterfall into a recognized state tourist center will act as a catalyst for socio-economic growth,” community leaders said, noting that it would generate immediate employment for young people in tour guiding, commerce, and hospitality.
To realize this potential, stakeholders urged the Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism to conduct an immediate site visit. Community representatives highlighted that state-led development would attract basic utilities, including electricity extensions and graded access roads, which would directly benefit local agricultural trade.
At the same time, environmentalists at the event advocated for strict conservation measures to protect local flora and fauna while responsibly opening the area to tourists.
