As Nigeria continues to battle housing shortages and rising property costs, the FCMB Staff Cooperative and Footy Homes and Properties have entered into a multi-billion naira partnership to develop 250 four-bedroom duplexes in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will see the construction of the housing units at Naveeda Park and Gardens, Toll Gate, Ibadan, within an 18-month timeline.

The initiative is aimed at improving homeownership opportunities for FCMB employees while providing a structured solution to some of the challenges associated with acquiring quality housing in Nigeria.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the FCMB representative, who also represents the bank at the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI Nigeria), said the project reflected the institution’s commitment to staff welfare and sustainable investment in its workforce.

He noted that access to quality housing remained one of the most valuable long-term benefits organisations could provide their employees, adding that the cooperative was determined to support members in owning homes built to standard.

According to him, the success of such institutional partnerships depends largely on trust, accountability and strict adherence to agreed timelines and quality specifications.

He said every agreement entered into on behalf of the cooperative was guided by professionalism and transparency, adding that developers must prove their capacity through delivery rather than promises.

The FCMB representative also disclosed that developers involved in institutional housing projects are often considered for estate management roles after completion because of their familiarity with the infrastructure and facilities provided.

He explained that Footy Homes could be given priority consideration for the long-term management of Naveeda Park and Gardens if the company meets expectations upon completion of the project.

Chairman of Footy Homes and Properties, Dr. Olamuyiwa Abdulazeez, described the partnership as a major milestone in the company’s commitment to delivering professionally managed residential communities for corporate organisations and institutional clients.

Abdulazeez assured that the company would deliver the 250 duplexes within the agreed 18-month period while maintaining high standards in construction, engineering and project management.

He said Footy Homes’ approach goes beyond constructing buildings, noting that the company focuses on creating residential communities with reliable infrastructure, security systems and amenities that enhance residents’ quality of life.

Located along the fast-developing Toll Gate axis of Ibadan, Naveeda Park and Gardens is expected to provide a modern residential environment with access to key commercial and urban centres within the city.

Industry observers said the FCMB–Footy Homes collaboration could serve as a model for future partnerships between financial institutions and private developers seeking innovative ways to address employee housing needs.

They noted that beyond providing accommodation, projects of this nature contribute to economic growth through job creation, increased demand for local building materials and expansion of supporting services.

The development also highlights Ibadan’s growing appeal as a destination for organised residential expansion, particularly along emerging urban corridors.

With successful completion, the project is expected to demonstrate how institutional partnerships can support homeownership, improve employee welfare and contribute to efforts aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit.
