SOKOTO — Renowned businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu, popularly known as Alhaji Karami, has commended former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for what he described as his enduring contributions to the development of education in Sokoto State.

In a congratulatory message dated July 2, 2026, Rabiu said Wamakko’s administration transformed the education sector through strategic investments that expanded access to learning and strengthened human capital development across the state.

He noted that the former governor prioritised education as a key driver of poverty reduction, economic growth and sustainable development, adding that the benefits of those policies continue to impact thousands of residents.

Rabiu identified the establishment of Sokoto State University as one of Wamakko’s landmark achievements, saying the institution has increased access to higher education for students within and outside the state.

He also credited Wamakko with founding Northwest University Sokoto, describing the institution as a major milestone that has further enhanced educational opportunities in Northern Nigeria.

According to him, both universities remain lasting symbols of visionary leadership and have produced graduates contributing meaningfully to different sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Rabiu further praised the former governor for consistently allocating a significant portion of the state’s budget to education during his administration, a policy he said accelerated the expansion and modernisation of educational infrastructure.

He recalled that up to 30 per cent of the state’s annual budget was devoted to the education sector under Wamakko’s leadership, reflecting what he described as an exceptional commitment to the development of the state’s youth.

The philanthropist also highlighted the establishment of Women Education Centres and other initiatives aimed at improving school enrolment, reducing gender disparities and enhancing literacy among vulnerable groups.

According to him, the interventions strengthened both basic and tertiary education while equipping young people with skills required for national development.

Rabiu described Wamakko as a teacher, administrator, former governor and legislator whose public service has been marked by a commitment to empowering citizens through education.

He added that the senator’s investments in education have contributed to social stability, economic growth and the long-term development of Sokoto State.

Rabiu prayed for Allah to grant Wamakko good health, wisdom and long life, expressing hope that he would continue to witness the enduring impact of the educational institutions and reforms initiated during his tenure.
