The Republic of Namibia is proudly participating in the 2026 African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries, currently taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to advancing Africa’s digital transformation agenda and strengthening regional cooperation in information and communication technology (ICT).

The Namibian delegation is led by senior government officials, with the Namibian High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, serving as the Deputy Head of Delegation.

Speaking during the conference, His Excellency emphasized that Namibia remains committed to working collaboratively with fellow African nations to promote innovation, digital connectivity, and inclusive ICT development across the continent.

He noted that the future of Africa depends on strong regional partnerships that accelerate digital infrastructure, expand access to affordable broadband services, encourage innovation, strengthen cybersecurity, and bridge the digital divide. According to him, Namibia believes that digital transformation is a critical driver of economic growth, education, healthcare delivery, trade, and sustainable development across Africa.

“Namibia is committed to working alongside our African partners in building a digitally connected continent where technology serves as a catalyst for inclusive growth, innovation, and shared prosperity,” the High Commissioner stated.

The ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries serves as the supreme policy-making body of the African Telecommunications Union, bringing together Ministers, Ambassadors, regulators, policymakers, development partners, and private sector leaders from across the continent to deliberate on the future of telecommunications, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and Africa’s digital economy.

Namibia’s active participation reflects the country’s dedication to supporting continental initiatives aimed at accelerating digital inclusion, strengthening regional integration, promoting innovation, and achieving the African Union’s Agenda 2063 aspirations for a prosperous and technologically advanced Africa.

The conference continues to provide an important platform for African nations to exchange ideas, adopt forward-looking policies, and strengthen partnerships that will shape the future of the continent’s digital ecosystem.
