The Lagos State University Muslim Alumni (LASUMA) has announced plans for its 2026 Transition and Handing Over Ceremony, describing the event as a significant milestone aimed at celebrating leadership, institutional continuity and the future of the association.
The ceremony is scheduled to hold on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the ACEITSE Hall, beside the Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos.
According to the association, the event will bring together academics, public office holders, religious leaders, professionals, alumni and other stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of the outgoing administration and formally inaugurate a new leadership.
The programme, themed “Strengthening Bonds and Sustaining Vision: The Future of Alumni Association,” will examine issues relating to alumni engagement, institutional development, leadership succession, strategic partnerships and the role of alumni bodies in advancing higher education and national development.
A keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Jamiu Oluwatoki of Lagos State University, who is expected to speak on leadership, continuity, institutional sustainability and the evolving responsibilities of alumni associations.
The event also carries the sub-theme, “Honouring the Past and Shaping the Future: Alumni Leadership Transition,” which, according to the association, reflects its belief that enduring organisations preserve institutional memory while preparing future leaders.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, the leadership of LASUMA described the event as “a celebration of service, sacrifice, and institutional resilience.”
According to the association, “the Transition and Handing Over Ceremony is not merely about passing responsibilities from one administration to another; it is about preserving a legacy of excellence, strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood among members, encouraging mentorship across generations of graduates, and inspiring collective responsibility toward the continued growth of both LASUMA and Lagos State University.”
The ceremony will be chaired by the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman of Conference 57, Hon. Sesan Abdullahi Olowa, while the President of LASUMA, Dr. Abdul-Azeez A. Anjorin, will serve as host.
The Chairman of the LASU Muslim Community, Prof. Rahman B. Yusuf, will serve as Chief Host, while the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi I. Olatunji-Bello, will attend as Grand Host. The Chief Imam of LASU, Prof. AbdulKudus O. Amuni, will serve as Spiritual Father.
The association reiterated its commitment to building “an inclusive, vibrant, and forward-looking alumni community anchored on integrity, service, scholarship, innovation, mutual support, and Islamic values.”
LASUMA also invited alumni, members of the university community, development partners, policymakers, traditional rulers, students and the general public to attend the ceremony, which it said would provide opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing and renewed commitment to the association’s ideals.
