.As LASEPA signs MoU
By Olasunkanmi Akoni
The Lagos State Government, through the state Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a technology firm, Simplified IQ Laborstory company, to deploy digital tools for noise pollution management and environmental compliance across the state.
The MoU, signed over the weekend at LASEPA’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, aimed to modernise how the agency monitors, reports, and enforces noise pollution regulations using technology.
Speaking at the ceremony, LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, described the partnership as “another major step towards building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos through innovation and technology.”
Ajayi said the collaboration reflects the state government’s push for transparent and digitally enabled regulatory systems.
Under the deal, LASEPA will roll out digital tools for environmental reporting, compliance monitoring, documentation, and enforcement.
A key part of the agreement is the introduction of mandatory digital environmental training for noise pollution violators.
Ajayi explained that individuals and organisations found breaching noise regulations will now undergo compulsory training to improve awareness of environmental laws and encourage long-term compliance.
“Participants will receive verifiable digital certification upon successful completion of the training and compliance process,” he said.
The partnership will also establish a unified digital platform where residents and communities can report environmental infractions. The system will allow LASEPA to track, monitor, and resolve violations more efficiently.
Ajayi called it a “transformative initiative” that will boost the agency’s capacity for data-driven regulation. “Integrating digital technology into environmental enforcement will improve transparency, accountability, compliance monitoring, and public confidence,” he added.
Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Sam Obi, said the MoU shows the Lagos State Government’s commitment to using innovation to protect the environment and promote compliance through education and strategic partnerships.
Also speaking, LASEPA’s Director of Noise Control Unit, Mrs. Abosede Natufe, urged residents, businesses, religious organisations and other stakeholders to embrace responsible environmental practices.
She said collective action was needed to achieve “a cleaner, quieter, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos State.”
The event was attended by senior government officials, LASEPA management staff, and representatives of the technology firm.
