PORT HARCOURT — The 62nd President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, has charged leadership of the ICAN Trans-Amadi & District Society to drive for excellence as performance will be measured by impact, not activities.
“Your success this year will be judged by the value created for members, students, the profession and the society we serve,” Seghosime harped during investiture of the District’s 2nd Chairman, Erhunmwunsee Eunice Ofure, and inauguration of 2026/2027 Executive Committee in Port Harcourt.
The ICAN President urged the new leadership to align its programmes with the institute’s strategic agenda, “We Are ICAN,” describing district societies as the engine room for translating the institute’s vision.
“District societies are the primary vehicles through which the vision of ICAN is translated into measurable impact. It is not about meetings held or ceremonies organised.
“We Are ICAN’ is not a slogan. It is a call to duty. It means raising standards, embracing technology, strengthening governance, promoting sustainability, advancing member welfare and protecting the integrity of our profession.”
Rivers State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Kenneth Lekue, said the occasion, “is a reaffirmation of the values that define ICAN—integrity, competence, transparency and service to society.
“Today, governments at all levels are confronted with the challenge of doing more with limited resources. This reality demands innovation, accountability and sound financial planning.”
Ms Ofure, the new ICAN Trans-Amadi and District Chairman, said her administration will run on the theme, “Strengthening Our Profession, Securing Our Future.”
“This theme reflects our commitment to building a stronger professional community today while creating lasting opportunities for future generations,” Ofure said.
She listed priorities to include continuous professional development, improved members’ welfare, expansion of the “Catch Them Young” initiative, and establishing a permanent district secretariat.
She appealed for support to acquire land for the secretariat and for partnerships on scholarships, youth empowerment and health outreach.
