…calls claims a smear campaign

A Niger Delta socio-cultural organisation, Niger Delta Voices for Change (NDVC), has dismissed reports linking former militant leader Endurance Amagbein to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and alleged support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the group described the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated.

NDVC maintained that Amagbein remains a loyal supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda. It insisted that reports suggesting he had switched political allegiance were inaccurate.

The statement, jointly signed by the group’s Chairman, Chief Preye Timini Anderson, and Secretary, Comrade Ubong Etim Joel, said Amagbein has consistently campaigned for President Tinubu.

“Amagbein remains firmly committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda. Any suggestion that he has switched political allegiance is false and politically motivated,” the statement said.

The organisation further alleged that individuals behind the media reports were attempting to tarnish Amagbein’s image amid competition surrounding pipeline surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta.

“Those behind these publications are trying to discredit Amagbein because of the intense competition over pipeline surveillance contracts in the region. Their goal is to create confusion and damage his reputation,” the group added.

NDVC described Amagbein as a philanthropist and peace advocate whose contributions have helped promote stability in the region.

“Amagbein has consistently worked for peace and development in the Niger Delta. He has passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and will continue to support this administration because it has provided greater opportunities for the people of the region,” the statement noted.

The group urged those behind the publications to halt what it called a campaign of misinformation and called on military authorities to investigate any activities that may undermine peace and security in the oil-rich region.
