Some retired military officers have lauded the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, for the release of funds to pay outstanding retirement benefits owed to former personnel of the Armed Forces.
The fund was released yesterday following directives of the minister in a move aimed at addressing long-standing welfare concerns among retired military officers.
The development has been welcomed by beneficiaries, many of whom described it as a timely intervention that would ease the financial burden faced by retired personnel and their families.
One of the beneficiaries, retired Colonel Ibrahim Musa, said the release of the funds demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of ex-service men and women.
“For many retired officers, this payment comes as a huge relief. We appreciate the efforts of the Finance Minister and Mr. Taiwo Oyedele in ensuring that these outstanding benefits are paid. This will go a long way in improving the lives of many retirees,” he said.
Another beneficiary, retired Wing Commander Emmanuel Okafor, also commended the minister for facilitating the disbursement.
“The release of these funds is a welcome development. It sends a strong message that the sacrifices made by military personnel in service to the nation are recognised and valued. We are grateful to the government for this intervention,” he stated.
Several retired officers who spoke on the development noted that delays in the payment of retirement benefits had remained a major concern for many former military personnel over the years.
They expressed optimism that the latest disbursement would help clear outstanding obligations and restore confidence among retirees.
The beneficiaries further praised Taiwo Oyedele for his role in facilitating the release of the funds, describing the intervention as evidence of the administration’s resolve to improve the welfare of public servants and pensioners.
According to them, prompt settlement of retirement benefits is essential to ensuring that those who dedicated their productive years to national service enjoy a dignified life after retirement.
The fund release is expected to cover outstanding retirement benefits due to eligible retired military officers across the country.
