The Head of the Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC) and Mayor of Urhoboland, His Worship Eshanekpe Israel Agimor, popularly known as Akpodoro, has called for a review of the declaration of the Udu State Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly as vacant.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Akpodoro expressed concern over the development, describing the decision as one that should be reconsidered in the interest of fairness and political stability.

According to him, the matter has generated public interest and should be addressed through constitutional and legal processes.

“The declaration should be reviewed in the interest of fairness and political stability,” Akpodoro said.

He also urged stakeholders to ensure that the issue is handled in a manner that protects the democratic interests of the people of Udu State Constituency.

Commenting on political defections, Akpodoro said there should be consistency in the application of relevant constitutional provisions, noting that similar situations involving elected officials have occurred in the past.

“If defection is an offence that requires a seat to be declared vacant, then the same standard should apply across the board,” he stated.

He argued that the mandate given to an elected representative ultimately belongs to the electorate and should only be affected through due legal and constitutional procedures.

Akpodoro further appealed to political leaders and relevant authorities to approach the matter with restraint in order to preserve public confidence in democratic institutions.

“The people of Udu Constituency deserve to have their mandate addressed in accordance with the law and due process,” he said.

He added that resolving the issue through established legal channels would help reduce political tension and promote stability within the state’s legislative process.

The declaration of the Udu State Constituency seat has continued to attract reactions from political stakeholders, while any legal or constitutional questions arising from the matter remain subject to the appropriate judicial and legislative processes.
