Anambra State has been ranked among the “Healthy” states in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Nigeria Subnational Status Ranking for July 2026, attaining the maximum score of 100.
The OGP assesses how genuinely open, accountable, and citizen-driven 24 participating states and the Abuja Municipal Council are based on a rigorous, nine-point framework.
These indicators include the existence of a State Action Plan (SAP), functional multi-stakeholder forums, an operational secretariat, active online engagement, and demonstrable high-level political commitment.
However, this ranking does not measure the overall transparency or accountability of states. Rather, it assesses how active and committed states are in implementing the agreed indicators of the OGP.
In a statement, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefo, said, ‘‘For Anambra, this rating is a strong indication that the state has successfully put in place the institutional structures and collaborative mechanisms required to sustain open, inclusive, and participatory governance.
‘‘It reflects a government that is committed to engaging citizens, strengthening accountability, and promoting transparency through established systems.
‘‘Beyond the ranking itself, this achievement positions Anambra as a model for other subnational governments in Nigeria.
‘‘It enhances the state’s credibility among development partners, strengthens public confidence in governance, and reinforces its readiness to attract partnerships and opportunities that support sustainable development.
‘‘Under the visionary leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the government remains steadfast in building institutions that are transparent, responsive, and people-centred, ensuring that governance continues to deliver meaningful outcomes for Ndi Anambra’’.
