The Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State, Mr. Fred Akpewe, has expressed confidence that the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, possesses the experience and leadership qualities needed to change the political narrative in the state.
Akpewe stated that his confidence stems from Ogboru’s long-standing influence in Delta politics and his emergence as the ADC governorship candidate for the 2027 election. He described Ogboru, popularly known as “The People’s General,” as a seasoned opposition figure with the determination to transform the state.
According to him, supporters across Delta’s three senatorial districts regard Ogboru as a courageous, resilient and committed leader who has remained actively engaged with the people despite previous electoral setbacks. He said many believe this perseverance reflects Ogboru’s unwavering commitment to serving the state.
Akpewe noted that Ogboru’s extensive participation in previous governorship contests and his involvement in the political development of Delta State have given him a deep understanding of the state’s challenges and the experience required to address them effectively.
He added that many young people see Ogboru as a leader capable of promoting employment, industrialisation, entrepreneurship, agriculture and infrastructure development. According to him, supporters believe the businessman’s private-sector experience would bring efficiency and innovation to governance.
The ADC spokesman also said several community leaders view Ogboru as a unifying figure who can bridge ethnic, political and religious divides while promoting inclusive development. He argued that the state requires leadership capable of fostering unity and accountability.
Akpewe further claimed that many residents see the 2027 governorship election as an opportunity for political change after years of one-party dominance. He said supporters believe a competitive political environment would strengthen democracy and improve governance in the state.
He also referred to what he described as a recent opinion poll indicating that many Deltans would welcome Ogboru’s emergence as governor, believing he possesses the competence and credentials to make a positive impact. However, he acknowledged that Ogboru, like other major political figures, has critics and that the electorate would ultimately determine the outcome of the election.
Akpewe maintained that Ogboru remains one of the most recognisable political figures in Delta State and that his candidacy has energized the political landscape ahead of the 2027 governorship election. He added that as campaigns gather momentum, the people of Delta State will decide at the polls who has the vision, capacity and leadership to govern the state.
