A political pressure group, Ogun West Initiative, has called on political actors in Ogun State to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abeokuta on Sunday, the Convener of the group, Olootu Bolaji Adeniji, said the people of Ogun State deserve meaningful conversations on critical sectors such as security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, industrialisation, job creation and economic prosperity.
“Political conversation in Ogun State must be elevated beyond personal vendettas and recurring cycles of sensational claims and personality contests. As the official campaign season approaches, our people deserve robust engagement on governance issues rather than distractions,” he said.
The group commended Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), the APC governorship candidate, for what it described as a disciplined and issue-based approach to his campaign activities.
Adeniji urged all candidates and their supporters to prioritise debates on policies and development programmes instead of focusing on personal issues.
The group also called on supporters of Senator Adeola to remain peaceful, law-abiding and avoid responding to political provocations.
“We call on all supporters of Senator Adeola throughout Ogun State to remain peaceful, respectful and focused. Let no one be provoked by negative campaigns. Truth, consistency and genuine service will always prevail over propaganda,” Adeniji added.
Ogun West Initiative concluded by urging all political actors in the state to embrace politics built on ideas, transformative policies and progress.
