2027: ADC governorship candidate calls for long-term development planning in Delta

By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo

The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Delta State for the 2027 election, Emmanuel Usiwoghene Unuafe, has called for development initiatives in the state to be driven by long-term planning and equitable distribution of projects ahead of the next governorship election.

In a statement titled “When Democracy Awakens the Sleeping Government: Ozoro, Electric Buses, and the Politics of Panic,” Unuafe urged governments at all levels to ensure that development is sustained across all communities, regardless of political considerations.

According to him, public projects and official engagements should reflect consistent governance and strategic planning aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

The ADC candidate also commented on the Delta State Government’s introduction of electric buses, saying the initiative would require adequate supporting infrastructure to ensure its long-term success.

He identified charging stations, maintenance centres, trained personnel, reliable electricity supply, operational management systems and suitable bus terminals as essential components for the efficient operation of the buses.

Unuafe stressed the importance of comprehensive planning for major public investments, noting that the supporting infrastructure would be critical to the sustainability of the electric transport initiative.

He also urged Delta residents to assess government policies and development programmes as the 2027 elections approach, encouraging voters to evaluate both campaign promises and project implementation.

According to him, citizens should consider whether public projects are backed by clear implementation plans and whether development is being distributed fairly across communities.

He added that democratic governance is strengthened when public policies are guided by planning, accountability and effective service delivery.

The Delta State Government had not responded to Unuafe’s remarks as of the time of filing this report.
