Family, friends, church leaders and associates gathered in Lagos last Friday to bid farewell to Special Apostle and Prophet Joseph Ijaola Ogunyoye, popularly known as Atunbi Jesu, who died on March 7, 2026, at the age of 87.

The late cleric, widely regarded as the pioneer missionary of the Cherubim & Seraphim (Agbo Jesu) movement in the United States and across the diaspora, was honoured during a funeral service held at Eko Club, The Arcade, Surulere.

Among those present was his son, Samuel Ogunyooye, founder of Cheser Media and pastor of The Glory of God Cherubim & Seraphim Church (Agbo Jesu), United States, who joined family members and well-wishers in celebrating the life and impact of the revered prophet.

Delivering the sermon, His Eminence Dr. Harold Olusegun Demuren, Deputy Baba Aladura of ESOCS Church, described the deceased as a devoted servant of God, whose commitment to his faith remained unwavering until the end of his life.

The funeral programme, coordinated by Special Apostle Taiwo Akinshola, popularly known as Omobabalowo ni Ilasamaja, featured hymns, tributes and thanksgiving sessions.

A reception followed at Eagle Club, Surulere, where guests from different walks of life gathered to pay their respects and celebrate his legacy.

Reflecting on his father’s life and values, Samuel Ogunyooye said the late prophet instilled in his children the importance of living with integrity and faith.

“My dad always taught me that life is not about living but living for God and living for good. He was a prophet of purity. He taught us to live right no matter the situation. He was a man of faith and that has been passed down to all his children, both spiritual and biological,” he said.
