UMUAHIA — Officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Abia State have completed a two-day training programme on forensic and fraud investigation aimed at strengthening investigative skills and supporting intelligence-led policing.
The capacity-building programme, coordinated by Pearl Chidinma Ogbulu, brought together officers from various investigative and intelligence units of the force.
The training focused on forensic techniques, fraud detection, criminal intelligence gathering, digital evidence management and modern investigative procedures relevant to contemporary policing challenges.
Speaking at the opening session, Ogbulu emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for law enforcement personnel, noting that advances in technology and changes in crime patterns require investigators to continually update their skills and knowledge.
According to her, effective policing increasingly relies on a combination of forensic science, intelligence gathering, digital investigation, ethical conduct and collaboration among relevant agencies.
She noted ongoing efforts within the Nigeria Police Force to enhance professionalism, capacity development and the use of technology in policing.
Participants were exposed to practical case studies, forensic methodologies, intelligence analysis, interview and interrogation techniques, as well as approaches to investigating financial crimes and organized criminal activities.
The programme also highlighted the importance of evidence preservation, respect for human rights and compliance with legal and constitutional standards during investigations.
Some participants described the training as timely and beneficial, saying it provided practical knowledge that could support improved investigative outcomes and help address emerging security challenges.
Stakeholders at the event noted that collaboration between forensic service providers and law enforcement agencies could contribute to strengthening investigative processes and supporting the criminal justice system.
The training forms part of ongoing efforts to improve professional capacity within the Nigeria Police Force and enhance the application of modern investigative techniques in crime prevention and detection.
