ABUJA — The Village Boys Movement, VBM, has urged supporters of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, to take their campaign beyond social media and into communities, wards and polling units, warning that victory in the 2027 presidential election will be won on the ground, not online.
The call came as the group congratulated Obi on securing the NDC presidential ticket, saying his emergence had renewed hope among many Nigerians but stressing that electoral success would depend on sustained grassroots mobilisation rather than online enthusiasm.
The position was contained in a statement signed by the leader of the movement, Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke, who called on members, supporters and stakeholders across the country to intensify mobilisation efforts at the grassroots.
“The road to victory in 2027 will not be travelled through conference halls or social media platforms alone. It will be won through sustained grassroots mobilisation, voter education, community engagement, and meaningful interaction with ordinary Nigerians,” Ezeoke said.
The group described Obi’s emergence as a reflection of his commitment to good governance, accountability, competence and the pursuit of a Nigeria that works for all its citizens.
It also commended the leadership and delegates of the NDC for conducting a process that produced a candidate it described as widely respected for his integrity, prudence and record of public service.
“We are confident that Mr Obi possesses the character, competence, and capacity required to provide purposeful leadership and guide Nigeria towards a more prosperous future,” the statement said.
According to the movement, Obi’s candidacy aligns with its vision of governance anchored on justice, security, productivity and shared prosperity.
The group maintained that the challenge ahead was to translate public goodwill into votes through sustained engagement with voters at the grassroots.
“This is the time to deepen our presence at the grassroots, strengthen our structures, and expand our reach to every corner of the country. Every village matters. Every community counts. Every vote is important,” Ezeoke stated.
Reaffirming its commitment to the 2027 election, the movement said it would continue to work with other progressive forces to advance what it described as the vision of a better Nigeria.
“VBM remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the vision of a better Nigeria and working alongside all progressive forces to ensure that the hopes and aspirations of the Nigerian people find expression at the ballot box in 2027,” Ezeoke added.
The movement urged its members, State leaders, supporters and stakeholders to return to their communities, wards and polling units and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
