NWUS partnerships will boost human capital devt in Sokoto — Prof. Bunza

The Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, has said the institution’s proposed academic partnerships with the Global North London Business School (GNLBS) and the University of East London (UEL), United Kingdom, will significantly boost human capital development in Sokoto State and Nigeria.

Prof. Bunza made the remarks in a statement signed by the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol of the university, Abdallah El-Kurebe, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the proposed collaboration with GNLBS is aimed at delivering internationally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, enhancing academic standards, and creating sponsorship opportunities for outstanding students, while equipping graduates with globally competitive skills and qualifications.

The proposal, contained in a document dated May 22, 2026, and signed by the Director of Studies at GNLBS, Dr. Julius Ayodele, seeks to align Northwest University’s academic programmes with UK qualification standards and expand access to world-class education.

The proposed undergraduate programmes include Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Management, Health and Social Care Management, Law, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), each carrying 360 credits.

The partnership is also expected to promote curriculum innovation, collaborative research, faculty development, professional training, and student exchange programmes.

Prof. Bunza said the proposed collaboration represents a major milestone in the university’s drive to provide globally competitive education.

“Northwest University, Sokoto, welcomes this proposed collaboration as a significant step towards advancing our vision of providing globally competitive education. We believe that partnering with Global North London Business School will open new opportunities for our students and staff, strengthen our academic programmes, and enhance our international profile. If successfully implemented, this initiative will contribute meaningfully to human capital development in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large,” he said.

He added that, on behalf of the Founder and Chairman of Council, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the university’s management and staff had considered the proposal and were awaiting further details and commitments towards its implementation for mutual benefit.

The statement further disclosed that Northwest University has also advanced a separate academic collaboration with the University of East London in the fields of Computer Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The initiative was facilitated by Dr. Bilyaminu Romo, an Assistant Professor at the University of East London and one of the beneficiaries of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko’s educational empowerment programme, which has sponsored many young people from Sokoto State to pursue higher education and specialised training within Nigeria and abroad.

According to the statement, the proposed collaboration with UEL will promote joint research, curriculum development, faculty and student exchanges, capacity building, and knowledge transfer in emerging digital technologies.

It added that the initiative complements Senator Wamakko’s long-standing investment in education and youth development by creating more opportunities for students and academic staff to benefit from international exposure, cutting-edge research, and global best practices in information technology, thereby strengthening human capital development in Sokoto State.
