KANO — The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has nominated Dr Muhammad Hamisu as its candidate for the Gwale Federal Constituency seat in Kano State ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Dr Hamisu emerged as the party’s flagbearer through a consensus arrangement following the completion of the party’s nomination process.

A cyber security expert and prominent member of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Hamisu currently serves as the movement’s Diaspora Coordinator and is known for his advocacy for grassroots development and inclusive governance.

Party supporters and political associates described his emergence as a strategic move aimed at strengthening representation for the people of Gwale Federal Constituency and advancing policies that address their socio-economic needs.

Speaking after securing the ticket, Hamisu pledged to provide effective representation and champion legislation that would improve the welfare of his constituents.

He stressed the need for people-oriented laws, youth empowerment programmes, improved educational opportunities and initiatives that would stimulate economic growth within the constituency.

Political observers said his extensive engagement with Nigerians in the Diaspora and his longstanding involvement in the Kwankwasiyya Movement could bring fresh perspectives to legislative debates and policy formulation at the National Assembly.

They also expressed optimism that his experience in community mobilisation and public advocacy would enhance his ability to articulate the concerns and aspirations of the people of Gwale.

A native of Gwale Local Government Area, Hamisu attended Bayero University Kano Staff School before proceeding to Dawakin Kudu Science College. He later studied Computer Engineering at Bayero University Kano.

He worked with Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, before moving to the United Kingdom on scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.

He subsequently earned a PhD in Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence and later returned to Nigeria, where he became actively involved in politics while coordinating the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the Diaspora.

Speaking on his previous political ambitions, Hamisu recalled contesting for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2023 but did not secure victory.

He said he later stepped aside in support of the eventual occupant of the seat following appeals from the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the elections, Hamisu’s emergence is expected to add fresh competition to the race for the Gwale Federal Constituency seat.

The 38-year-old politician is married and has children.
