IBADAN — The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has continued aerial surveillance operations in support of ongoing efforts to secure the release of teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, disclosed this on June 5, 2026, during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff and the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command.
Makinde said the Air Force swiftly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the incident was reported, providing intelligence that has assisted security agencies in coordinating search-and-rescue operations.
He noted that information gathered from the surveillance missions has continued to support ongoing efforts to track developments and enhance operational response aimed at ensuring the safe return of the victims.
The governor appealed for calm and patience from residents, assuring them that security agencies were working to resolve the situation.
Makinde commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt response and sustained support, adding that the surveillance platform was deployed while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still undergoing preparation and integration at the NAF Base in Lagos.
He explained that the state procured the aerial platforms following consultations with the Air Force to ensure proper maintenance, engineering support and pilot training arrangements.
The governor expressed optimism that the assets, once fully operational, would significantly enhance security operations in Oyo State and surrounding areas.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting ongoing rescue efforts and strengthening collaboration with other security agencies.
He also commended the Oyo State Government for its support for Air Force operations and infrastructure development in the state.
The Air Force reiterated its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to enhance security and ensure the protection of lives and property across the country.
