A Delta State-based socio-political organisation, the Anioma Peoples Forum (APF), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in what it described as internal challenges affecting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.
In an open letter signed by its Coordinator, Mr. Israel Chuks Okolo, and Secretary, Hon. Edward Nwaodua, the group expressed concerns over what it alleged was the marginalisation of longstanding APC members following recent political realignments within the party.
According to the group, the situation could affect party unity and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections if not addressed through inclusive leadership and engagement.
“Legacy APC members are being sidelined and disenfranchised, despite staying loyal through tough foundations right up till the glory days of the party.
“Obviously, the current structures of APC new decampees seemed to divide rather than unite and integrate the party.
“We are worried that longstanding party members and legacy APC stakeholders are gradually becoming marginalized in favour of new political arrangements whose commitment to the ideals and sacrifices of the party is yet untested.”
The group particularly bemoaned the non-implementation of the 60/40 sharing formula for party positions between old and new members in the state reportedly approved by the national leadership of the APC.
It claimed that the “new APC structure in the state under the control of former Governor IfeanyiOkowa , and his associates, has failed to comply with the directive of the national leadership because they do not regard themselves as part of the legacy family that built the party.”
In the letter, the organisation urged the President and the national leadership of the APC to promote greater inclusion of party stakeholders and ensure that all segments of the party are carried along in decision-making processes.
The group further referenced political developments surrounding the 2023 presidential election, including the role played by former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa during that period.
It urged the President to exercise caution in his political engagements and to remain mindful of the interests of loyal party members.
While reaffirming its support for President Tinubu and the APC, the Anioma Peoples Forum called for reconciliation and unity within the party, stressing the need to recognise the contributions of members who have remained committed to the party over the years.
The forum also appealed for vigilance in managing political alliances, saying efforts should be made to strengthen trust and cohesion within the APC as preparations gradually begin for future electoral contests.
