By Ephraim Oseji

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and House of Assembly aspirant for Ughelli North Constituency II, Mr. Christmas Akpodiete, Esq., has congratulated the party’s governorship candidate in Delta State, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, on his victory at the recently concluded party primaries.

Akpodiete’s congratulatory message followed the affirmation of Iyovwaye’s emergence by the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the NDC after the governorship primaries held across the state on May 29, 2026.

In a statement made available to journalists, Akpodiete described Iyovwaye as a man of remarkable character, integrity and competence, expressing confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership for Delta State if elected governor in 2027.

According to him, “Deacon Chris is an amiable man with remarkable integrity and sterling qualities. He is a proven technocrat who has distinguished himself both in business and politics.”

The NDC stalwart said the outcome of the primaries reflected the confidence party members have in Iyovwaye’s leadership capacity and vision for the state.

Akpodiete pledged his unwavering support for the party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election, assuring that he would actively participate in campaigns aimed at securing victory for the NDC at the polls.

“I will give my full support to the NDC candidate. I am committed to working with him and campaigning across the state to ensure that we deliver victory for our party in February 2027,” he said.

The Ughelli North Constituency II aspirant further urged party members and supporters to close ranks and unite behind the governorship candidate in order to strengthen the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.

He expressed optimism that Iyovwaye’s wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors would be instrumental in addressing developmental challenges confronting the state.

Akpodiete assured Deltans that the NDC governorship candidate possesses the capacity to transform the state’s socio-economic fortunes and provide purposeful leadership.

“Deacon Chris will bring all his experience to the table and reset Delta State’s social, political and economic landscape for the benefit of all Deltans,” he stated.

He called on residents of the state to support the NDC and its candidate, stressing that the party remains committed to delivering good governance, economic growth and sustainable development across Delta State.

The NDC governorship primaries, which were conducted on May 29, saw delegates across the state elect Iyovwaye as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election, a decision later affirmed by the party’s NEC.
