Technology executive and digital transformation expert, Sunny Joseph Imohimi, has emerged winner of the ICT Innovator of the Year Award at the 2026 Africa Beacon of ICT, BoICT, Awards held in Lagos.

Imohimi, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, FICA, was honoured for his contributions to fintech innovation, blockchain adoption, digital payments, mobility technology and smart infrastructure development across Africa and emerging markets.

The annual event, organised by Communications Week Media, attracted stakeholders, policymakers, innovators and business leaders within Africa’s technology ecosystem.

Currently serving as Regional Manager, MENA & Africa (EMEA) at Bitget, Imohimi was recognised for driving digital financial inclusion and expanding technology adoption through strategic partnerships, payment optimisation and P2P ecosystem development across several countries.

Speaking during the presentation of the award, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Communications Week Media, Mr. Ken Nwogbo, described Imohimi as a visionary innovator whose work continues to influence the future of digital finance and smart infrastructure on the continent.

According to him, “Sunny represents a new generation of forward-thinking technology leaders whose innovation-driven approach is helping to shape sustainable digital growth across Africa and emerging markets.”

Before joining Bitget, Imohimi spent over three years at Binance, where he played key roles in operations and growth across more than 40 African markets.

One of his notable achievements was leading the rollout of the Pay-in-Chat functionality in Africa, a solution designed to enable users initiate and complete digital transactions through integrated chat experiences.

Earlier in his career, he also led mobility market expansion initiatives at Bolt across eight Nigerian cities, contributing to significant business growth through operational scaling, market penetration and product adoption strategies.

Beyond fintech and mobility technology, Imohimi is also involved in smart infrastructure innovation through Arkcess Technology Limited, a company focused on digital access control, smart community management and connected residential infrastructure.

Responding after receiving the award, Imohimi expressed appreciation to the organisers, partners and members of his team for their support over the years.
He said: “This recognition represents the power of innovation, collaboration, and the limitless potential of technology to transform lives and economies. I remain committed to building solutions that create access, drive inclusion, and shape the future of digital transformation across Africa and beyond.”

The Africa Beacon of ICT Awards is regarded as one of the continent’s leading platforms for recognising innovation and excellence within the ICT industry.

Industry observers said Imohimi’s recognition further reinforces his growing influence in Africa’s technology ecosystem, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, financial technology and smart infrastructure development.
