APC stakeholders seek party intervention over Somolu Constituency II primary outcome

Concerned Stakeholders and Party Members of Somolu Constituency II of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State have called on the leadership of the party to ensure that the outcome of the constituency’s recent primary election is upheld in accordance with party procedures.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Bakare Kareem, the group expressed concern over what it described as efforts to alter the outcome of the APC primary election held on May 20.

The stakeholders urged party leaders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and the Lagos State APC leadership, to intervene and ensure that due process is followed in resolving any issues arising from the exercise.

According to the statement, members at the grassroots should have confidence that the outcome of the primary election reflects the choice expressed during the process.

“We believe the will of party members as expressed during the primary election must be respected,” the group stated.

“Any attempt to alter the outcome or impose a candidate against the wishes of members would be detrimental to the party’s democratic ideals.”

The stakeholders also expressed concern that any dispute over the outcome of the primary could affect party unity and member confidence ahead of future elections.

They alleged that some party leaders were involved in efforts aimed at influencing the final outcome of the exercise.

“The voice of Somolu Constituency II members must be respected. Our mandate should not be tampered with, and the outcome of the primary election must be allowed to stand,” the statement added.
