The Executive Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government, Honourable Olalekan Olu Akindipe, has commended residents of the council area for their high level of compliance during the June edition of the Environmental Sanitation Exercise, describing the turnout as encouraging and a reflection of the administration’s commitment to a cleaner environment.

Honourable Akindipe, who led the environmental monitoring team across the council area on Saturday, expressed satisfaction with residents’ participation in the exercise, which covered major roads and communities within the local government.

The sanitation exercise commenced at the Council Secretariat and extended through Achakpo Street, Idewu Street, Alakoto Market, Coconut Road, Mile 2 Oshodi Express Road, Awodiora Road, Sanwo-Olu Road, before ending at Boundary.

Speaking during the exercise, the council chairman reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to sustain strict environmental sanitation measures through regular monitoring and enforcement.

“For us in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government, environmental sanitation is a daily exercise. Every Thursday, we ensure all our markets comply,” Akindipe said.

To strengthen waste management across the council, the chairman disclosed that the local government had provided the necessary sanitation materials and procured nine compactors, one for each ward, while directing councillors to remain within their respective wards to monitor compliance.

He urged residents to imbibe proper waste disposal habits and support the council’s efforts by keeping their surroundings clean at all times.

According to him, environmental sanitation should become a way of life rather than a monthly obligation.

Honourable Akindipe also appealed to the Lagos State Government to assist in clearing and evacuating debris from drainage channels along the Mile 2 Oshodi Expressway, noting that the magnitude of the work is beyond the capacity of the local government.

He added that the reintroduced Environmental Sanitation Exercise is now held on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment across Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government.
