A support group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN), has called for a fair, impartial and lawful adjudication of a pending court case involving the party and one of its members, Nafiu Bala.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, the group’s spokesperson, Mr. Peter Emeka, emphasized the importance of judicial independence and adherence to the rule of law in resolving political disputes.
According to him, the judiciary remains a critical pillar of Nigeria’s democracy and should continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities without interference or external influence.
Emeka expressed confidence that the court would consider all relevant legal arguments and facts presented by the parties involved before reaching a decision.
He also noted that issues relating to party leadership and internal democracy have been subjects of judicial interpretation over the years, stressing the need for consistency with established legal principles.
“The judiciary plays a vital role in sustaining democracy and public confidence in the rule of law. We believe the court will act in accordance with the Constitution and the provisions of the law,” he said.
The GMN spokesperson further observed that court decisions in politically significant matters often attract public interest, adding that stakeholders across the political spectrum are closely following developments in the case.
He urged all parties involved in the dispute to respect the judicial process and await the court’s determination.
The ADC and Nafiu Bala have been involved in a protracted leadership dispute, with several legal actions reportedly filed in different courts over the matter.
The latest suit, which is before Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, is expected to come up for hearing in the coming days.
Political observers say the outcome of the case could provide further legal clarity on the issues surrounding the party’s leadership structure and internal governance.
