Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has spoken out against the wave of killings across Nigeria, following a disturbing video of a teacher allegedly murdered in Oyo State.
The video, which went viral online, reportedly shows mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun being killed. Jegede expressed outrage at the incident and questioned the public’s silence.
“I am worried why we are not all standing against this. Are we now okay with the ugly development? Nigerians, is this the new standard?” she asked in an Instagram post.
Describing the act as “inhumane,” Jegede said the violence affects everyone, not just specific groups.
“This is not good for us, not in the eyes of man, not in the eyes of God, not in the eyes of humanity, not even economically,” she wrote. “I don’t see enough anger to speak out against it without fear. This should scare you more. This blood thirst is getting closer than we think.”
In a follow-up video, the actress lamented the growing disregard for human life and urged the government to take stronger steps to ensure the security of Nigerians.
Toyin Abraham has also added her voice, expressing grief over the killings and abductions in Oyo State and other parts of Nigeria. In an Instagram post, the actress wrote: “My heart is deeply heavy over the painful killings and abductions happening in Oyo State and across different parts of Nigeria.
“As someone with strong ties to Oyo State through family, culture, and love for the people, this tragedy feels very personal to me. It is heartbreaking to see innocent lives lost, families thrown into mourning, children living in fear, and communities traumatized by violence.”
