The Nigeria Revenue Service, NRS, has authorised indigenous technology firm, Upperlink Limited, as a System Integrator on Nigeria’s national electronic invoicing platform, positioning the company to support businesses as the country begins phased implementation of mandatory e-invoicing.

The authorisation enables Upperlink to connect businesses and institutions to the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution, MBS, framework, while supporting real-time invoice validation, secure transmission and compliant digital tax reporting under the new national e-invoicing regime.

Speaking on the development, Managing Director of Upperlink Limited, Mr. Olusegun Akano, said the approval reflects the company’s long-standing expertise in enterprise technology, digital infrastructure and large-scale service delivery.

According to him, the company has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous technology firms with capacity in regulated payment infrastructure and transaction technology.

“We have delivered secure, scalable and easy-to-use platforms for businesses, government, financial services and digital transformation initiatives. We are licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria as a Payment Solution Service Provider and operate as an aggregator to the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, NIBSS.

“This underscores our depth in regulated payment infrastructure and transaction technology. We are also the first ICANN-accredited registrar in Nigeria, which further demonstrates our capabilities in digital infrastructure and cloud-related services,” Akano said.

He added that the company had developed enterprise solutions such as Upperlink Paygate, which aggregates payments across major card schemes and account-to-account channels, alongside treasury management systems supporting large corporations and state governments.

“These capabilities reinforce our readiness to support large-scale invoicing, reconciliation and compliance workflows required under the NRS e-invoicing regime,” he added.

Akano further highlighted the company’s involvement in public sector and social-impact projects, citing its role in the AGILE Project, a five-year Federal Government initiative supported by the World Bank.

According to him, Upperlink provided technical support to some states through a secure portal for beneficiary registration, digital identity capture, database creation and payment management in partnership with banks.

Also speaking, Chief Marketing Officer of Upperlink Limited, Mr. Opeyemi Oni, said the NRS approval strengthens the company’s commitment to helping Nigerian businesses comply seamlessly with the new e-invoicing framework.

“The framework will help reduce operational friction, improve transparency and enable trusted digital record keeping across the ecosystem,” Oni said.

The development comes as Nigeria intensifies efforts to digitise its tax administration system. The NRS has already confirmed a phased rollout of e-invoicing across large, medium and emerging taxpayers, with onboarding timelines tied to annual turnover thresholds above N5 billion, between N1 billion and N5 billion, and below N1 billion.

Businesses are expected to integrate their invoicing and accounting systems with the NRS-approved framework to ensure real-time issuance, validation and submission of invoices through authorised channels.

As a System Integrator, Upperlink Limited will design, deploy and support compliant invoicing systems for organisations seeking connection to the national e-invoicing infrastructure.

The company said it would provide integration support for organisations with existing enterprise systems as well as businesses requiring middleware or portal-based solutions to meet the new compliance obligations.
