The Federal Government has said its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Electric Vehicle (EV) programme will help reduce transportation costs and create jobs for Nigerians.

The Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and EV, Ismaeel Ahmed, made this known on Thursday during the launch of the Northern Corridor programme in Kano.

Ahmed said the initiative, which was introduced after the removal of fuel subsidy, is aimed at providing a cheaper and more sustainable alternative for transportation across the country.

According to him, “This initiative is not just about energy transition. It is about reducing transport costs, creating jobs, deepening local capacity, and building a more sustainable and competitive economy for Nigerians.”

He explained that the programme has already made significant progress across the country, including the rollout of vehicle conversion centres, refuelling stations, and training of thousands of Nigerians.

“Over the last 20 months, we have worked with industry players and state governments to build the foundation for nationwide adoption. We have rolled out conversion programmes in more than 28 states and supported over 58 refuelling stations,” he said.
