The Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA has reaffirmed its commitment to improving education infrastructure with the commissioning of renovated classrooms, an ICT laboratory and staff room at State Senior High School Ikeja, Lagos.

The project was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the school premises in Ikeja and forms part of the club’s intervention aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.

The initiative covered the renovation and furnishing of five SS2 classrooms, rehabilitation of the school’s ICT laboratory and staff room, as well as the donation of 75 furniture sets for students.

Speaking at the event, District Governor of Rotary District 9110, Kingsley Akinyele, described the intervention as a strategic investment in the future of the nation.

According to him, education-focused projects remain critical to nation-building because they directly impact the next generation of leaders.

“This project is far beyond a physical structure. When you renovate facilities like this, you are helping to build the next generation,” Akinyele said.

He commended the inclusion of a staff room in the project, noting that teachers also require a comfortable environment to perform effectively.

“Our teachers deserve a good atmosphere where they can prepare adequately to shape the lives of these children. This project has enormous benefits for both staff and students,” he stated.

Akinyele also stressed the importance of digital education, urging students to maximise the ICT laboratory.

“We are in a digital era driven by innovation. This ICT facility is a great opportunity for students and they must use it responsibly,” he added.

He noted that Rotary would continue to monitor the project to ensure sustainability and proper maintenance.

President of Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Abigail Akano, said the intervention was made possible through district grants and contributions from members of the club.

She described the project as a reflection of Rotary’s core principle of service above self.

“This project demonstrates our commitment to creating impact and transforming lives in our communities. It is about investing in young people and supporting education,” Akano said.

She expressed appreciation to Rotary District 9110 and other partners for their support in delivering the project.

In her remarks, Principal of State Senior High School Ikeja, Folake Abeni Longe, said the intervention had significantly improved the school’s learning environment.

She revealed that the school had witnessed several infrastructure challenges before the Rotary intervention.

“When I resumed here a year ago, the state of infrastructure was a major concern. Today, we are celebrating remarkable progress,” she said.

Longe said the new facilities would improve teaching and learning outcomes while helping students compete favourably with their peers globally.

“These classrooms represent renewed hope for our students and teachers. We are committed to maintaining them so they continue to serve future generations,” she said.

She thanked the Rotary Club and other development partners for their continued support to the school.

The event attracted Rotarians, education officials, students and community stakeholders who applauded the initiative as a boost for public education in Lagos State.
