THE governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo has been called upon re-open the Institute of Continuing Education Centres, (ICE) which was established to enable workers and those who could not continue their education in the regular secondary school system to do that on part time basis.
Besides, the governor was also urged to employ all currently jobless PhD. holders across various disciplines in the state.
This call was made in Benin City during the public presentation of a book, “EMATON” by the author, Dr. Francis Igberaese.
According to the author, the resources needed to take care of one professor could pay for four new Phd holders..
He said “I appeal to the governor to give automatic employment to all the PhD holders in the state. It is an abberation for a PhD holder to be jobless.”
Igberaese said he did not set out to castigate the former governor, Godwin Obaseki but to access his administration and identified the factors that led to the way he ended.
He said Obaseki was benevolent in the first few months of his administration when he reinstated the dethroned Onojie of Uromi and gave a state burial to elder statesman, Late Chief Anenih but allegedly became malevolent thereafter.
Dr. Igberase who is a lecturer at the Department of Economics of the Ambrose Alli University, (AAU) Ekpoma said the former governor was a beneficiary of the ICE but he was shocked that he shut down the institute and appealed to the governor to write his name in gold by implementing these suggestions.
In his welcome address, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Dan Osi Orbih who commented the author said the former governor was more of a theory and not practical governance.
According to him, “Obaseki built everything around his laptop and ruled the people with an iron hand.
“Today I am here, but Obaseki is far away from here, let him come back home to give account of his stewardship.”
